The chalet construction is of traditional solid pine madriers with a high level of insulation, on a full basement.

Heating for the main rooms is zoned underfloor electric, with electric radiators (which are rarely necessary) for the upstairs bedrooms and bathrooms.

There is also a wood burning stove in the large living and dining room, which extends to 41 square metres. There are four double bedrooms, one of which is equipped as an office with high-speed broadband.

The principal bedroom suite has a dressing room with extensive wardrobes, and the bathroom has separate bath and shower. The principal bedroom has a cathedral ceiling, 3.32 metres high at the apex, and was carefully designed to be symmetric, centred on the full-length window to fully appreciate the magnificent view. It also has a private balcony.

All upstairs bedrooms have extensive fitted wardrobes. In addition there is a family bathroom (again with separate bath and shower), and a separate cloakroom downstairs. The kitchen is fully equipped, and separate from the living areas. The chalet obtains excellent reception of all UK television and radio channels via Sky satellite (by subscription many channels free to air).

For winter sports, access to the huge Portes du Soleil ski area is ten minutes drive away, and there is a free ski bus service from Abondance to la Chapelle and Chtel throughout the season. The Portes du Soleil offers 207 ski lifts, providing linked access to 14 resorts and around 50 different mountains in France and Switzerland.

Abondance is far more than a ski resort, however. An excellent network of footpaths provides walking, snowshoeing, ski touring, climbing and mountain biking throughout the year, between 900 and 2432 metres altitude. The rivers also provide water sports canoeing and rafting. Many of the ski lifts function in the summer to broaden the huge range of countryside accessible. There are many excellent restaurants in the area, from four-star hotels to mountain refuges.
